The obligatory Christmas post…

Well its that time of year once again and after my lack of Christmas effort last year with just moving in I thought I’d make a start this year my way with RGB.

Yeah that’s right I went for a portal tree, because why not and naturally it had to be running WLED. Again using the sync function so they logically appear as 1 string for the “Fairy Lights” while leaving the rope lights as their own segments.

To accomplish this I had to order myself some new toys from AliExpress as well as move to ESP-32 Controllers for extra CPU grunt from having dual cores, the first being the fairy lights:

After ordering the initial 2 x 10M sections to complete the top and bottom half I realised I was short for completing the bottom half so had to order more. This was a slight hiccups as the first 2 sets where RGB while the 3rd set I ordered has GRB for the top half of the bottom section, but more on this later.

And some LED Rope lights for the outside of the portals, these are filled with WS2812 LED’s to allow the individual control of each light

The outdoor path lights

Lets not talk about them, I got everything built up, trees placed, Wired in along side my existing 24V embedded path lights, Plugged in the controller and ran the power to the existing Meanwell UHP. This is where it all went wrong the lights on the trees where 12v not 24v and after connecting up and getting nothing the project was shelved till Christmas 2024

To Quote Moss from the IT crowd:
Moss : Ah, well, prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark ‘egg on your face’!

[pause]

Moss : I sort of forget what I was talking about.
